Lakewood does not run municipal collection either — residents and property managers contract licensed private haulers, so large-item allowances are a question for your hauler rather than the city.
What the city does run is drop-off recycling, and the limits there are worth knowing before you load a truck. The Quail Street Recycling Center at 1068 Quail St. is free and open to everyone, Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 1:15 to 4 p.m. It takes sorted, clean, dry cardboard (flattened and cut to no more than 3 ft by 5 ft), scrap metal, aluminium beverage cans, paper, glass bottles and jars, and plastic bottles. The catch: it accepts only what fits in a standard car or small pickup, and no trailers. The Rooney Road Recycling Center is the one for household chemicals and electronics.
Between them those two cover sorted recyclables and hazardous odds and ends. Neither is a route for a garage, a shed’s worth of timber, or a sofa.
