Junk removal in Denver
What city collection covers, and where it stops
Denver runs its own residential collection, and the Large Item Pickup that comes with it is genuinely useful: once every nine weeks, on your normal collection day, the city will take up to five large items plus up to ten bags. Furniture, rugs, large toys, non-electric bicycles, exercise equipment and bundled branches under 4 ft long and 4 in thick all qualify. Mattresses and box springs count, but have to be bagged and wrapped.
The limits are where most of our Denver requests come from. Everything must be out by 6 a.m. and set at least two feet clear of your carts, cars and poles — so it has to reach the kerb under its own steam, which rules out anything in a basement or behind a locked gate. And the city does not take appliances, electronic waste, construction materials, automotive materials, hazardous items including paint, batteries and tires, or loose trash.
That exclusion list is most of a real cleanout. A fridge, a torn-out vanity and three bags of drywall offcuts are three separate problems for city pickup and one job for a private hauler.
Neighbourhoods we hear from most
- Wash Park, Platt Park, Baker — Older bungalows with basements and detached garages. Basement clearouts and estate jobs as long-term owners move on.
- RiNo, Five Points, LoHi — Loft and condo turnover, renovation debris, and furniture that won't fit the freight lift.
- Park Hill, Montclair, Mayfair — Family homes with decades of garage and attic storage. Some of the biggest single-property loads in the metro.
- Green Valley Ranch, Stapleton/Central Park — Newer builds, mostly furniture swaps and finished-basement construction debris.
Denver in numbers
- 715,522 residents at the 2020 census — the largest single service area in the metro, and a consolidated city and county.
- Nine weeks between city large-item collections, so a spring clearout and an autumn one rarely both land when you need them.
- Five items is the cap per collection. A single bedroom usually beats it.

Denver pickups
Do you cover downtown high-rises?
Yes. Tell us the building and whether there's a loading dock or a booked freight lift. That decides the crew size and the time slot.
What about a narrow street?
Usually fine. Denver's older neighbourhoods have tight alleys, and alley access is often easier than street frontage. Mention it in your request.
Same-day in Denver proper?
Sometimes, depending on the hauler's schedule. Ask early in the day and we'll tell you honestly whether it's possible.
